From Thailand to Kent: My Journey of Launching an Accounting Practice that Adds Magic to Your Business

Starting an accounting practice is a significant challenge. Who knew?
Whilst doing some soul searching after qualifying as an accountant during the beautiful high seasons of Thailand - I decide now was the time. Time to return to the UK with a goal in mind. Time to take what I have learnt, and run the show myself.
A few years of travelling (funded by contract work) - I went searching, like we all do in life.
The amount the contract work paid would be enough to make a sane man sell their soul - for that is the cost of this kind of work, soul destroying. The gilded cage allowed the freedom to enjoy over 50% of my year living the easy life - travelling, exploring, living. But the other was a life of shackled monotony, a sea of grey.
So I returned to the UK back in February 2025 - and have since been working towards establishing my own accounting practice. Fuelled by a passion for numbers and a vision of delivering top-notch accounting solutions, I made my way back to Kent and East Sussex to establish my dream practice—Mythic Accounting.
In this post, I’ll share my experiences over the past few years, the steps taken to set up my business, and what makes Mythic Accounting truly special.
The Last Few Years: Traveling and Contracting
The past few years have been a whirlwind of adventure and learning. I spent my time traveling through Thailand and various corners of Southeast Asia, immersing myself in diverse cultures. This exploration gave the harmony that I hadn't felt in a few years.
It had rekindled my passion for wanting to help smaller businesses - the people I met inspired me to do more for myself, so that I can give back more to others.
Through this journey, I studied and grew my knowledge, into that make an accounting partnership truly magical. Clients need value driven insights, not just accurate numbers. They need to feel value and be valued.
My time abroad allowed me to embrace this philosophy and equipped me with the tools needed to enhance the accounting experience for businesses back home in Kent and East Sussex where Mythic Accounting is getting started.
Zero to Now: Registration and Business Setup
Fast forward to today, I am ecstatic to share that Mythic Accounting is now a reality. Setting up a new company in Kent brought its own set of challenges—navigating registration processes, choosing the right business structure, and establishing essential systems.
Every detail aligned with my vision of delivering premium solutions tailored to each client's needs. The leap from an idea to a comprehensive accounting practice involved detailed planning and determination. The transformation journey from “zero” to “now” consisted of over an ever growing number of hours of research, planning, and implementation.
Today, I’m proud to offer a range of services blending traditional accounting with innovative solutions tailored to individual clients.
Why I Started an Accounting Practice in Kent / East Sussex
I chose to establish my accounting practice in Kent, currently residing in the charming village of Biddenden with my partner - I am surrounded by beautiful countryside on my doorstep.
With a family home in Brighton and deep roots across Kent and East Sussex - from Paddock Wood, to Canterbury, and Rye, living in central Kent is an ideal location to form connections and positively impact local businesses across the region.
Working with local businesses is what drives growth - in the economy, in ourselves, in our society. I want to focus on those close to home - forging strong local connections within the community, with other entrepreneurs and small businesses, creating a solid support network.
